As of January 1, 2017 all properties owned by the Columbia Housing Authority became smoke-free making the agency one of the first in the country, and the first in South Carolina, to implement this policy.


The policy prohibits use of all lit tobacco products and hookahs inside all indoor areas of public housing, including but not limited to living units, indoor common areas, electrical closets, storage units, and PHA administrative office buildings, and in all outdoor areas within 25 feet of the housing and administrative office buildings.
