Jim Rex to Speak at 20th
Annual Wall of Fame Ceremony
Columbia, S.C. – Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) is pleased to
announce that Jim Rex will be the keynote speaker for the 20th
Annual Wall of Fame Ceremony. On April
11, 2007 at 11 a.m., Jettiva S. Belton and Frank B.
Washington will be honored for their outstanding community service and inducted
into the distinguished Wall of Fame.
Jim
Rex has spent most of his life making a difference for families and communities
across South Carolina. Before becoming
State Superintendent of Education on Jan. 10, 2007, he was a high school
English teacher, football coach and higher education leader, including serving
as dean of education at Winthrop University and Coastal Carolina University. As the former president of Columbia College, Rex
knows the importance of preparing students, not just for higher education, but
for the real world they will face as working adults. In addition, Rex is a published author and
has served as a top consultant to education advocacy organizations like the
National Institute of Education and Governor Dick Riley's South Carolina
Educator Improvement Task Force.
The Wall of Fame, located at 2211 Read
Street, honors former CHA residents who have achieved personal success and made
significant contributions to the community.
In addition to honoring the recipients, the portraits featured on the
Wall of Fame are designed to inspire current CHA residents to overcome
obstacles and achieve success.
CHA manages nearly 2,000 conventional
public housing units and administers more than 3,100 rental assistance
contracts throughout Richland County.
CHA is the third oldest housing authority in the nation and has
continuously been recognized by HUD for its successful housing and education programs.
