Homeownership Expo to Offer Over 20 Exhibits and Seminars
Event Will Highlight National Homeownership Month in June
Columbia, S.C. – Local housing agencies, non-profits and private business have partnered to bring awareness to National Homeownership Month by holding the Midlands Homeownership Expo on June 16, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cecil Tillis Center, located at 2111 Simpkins Lane.
Over 20 exhibitors, including lenders, realtors, private business and community service providers will offer information on the various components of the home buying process, ranging from low-interest mortgage loan and down payment assistance programs to financial planning. Thirty-minute seminars on predatory lending, understanding credit and steps to buying a home will be held at different times throughout the event.
The public is invited to attend this free, informative expo where they can not only learn about homeownership, but also print their credit report and enter to win a number of door prizes and other giveaways. Bilingual volunteers will be on hand to assist Spanish-speaking visitors.
“This event is a great opportunity for many different organizations to join together and provide the public with a broad range of resources and information about every aspect of buying a home,” said Gilbert Walker, executive director of Columbia Housing Authority.
Agencies and business collaborating for the expo include Columbia Housing Authority, South Carolina State Housing, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, City of Columbia, Richland County, Community Assistance Provider, Inc. and Latino Communications, LLC.
