Columbia Housing Authority Has Award Winning Year

 

Columbia, S.C. – During 2007, local, regional and national organizations have recognized Columbia Housing Authority (CHA) for successfully providing quality training programs, building affordable and innovative communities, and promoting energy conservation.  Here are some of the prestigious awards CHA has received this year:

 

·    Merit Awards - National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO):

o        Celia Saxon Development – Project Design Category

o        Celia Saxon Free Wi-Fi Network – Program Innovation: Community Revitalization Category

o        Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program – Program Innovation: Community Revitalization Category

o        Career Development Program – Program Innovation: Resident and Client Services Category

 

·    Awards of Excellence - NAHRO Southeastern Regional Council:

o        Celia Saxon Development – Project Design Category

o        Celia Saxon Free Wi-Fi Network – Program Innovation: Community Revitalization Category

o        CNA Training Program – Program Innovation: Community Revitalization Category

 

·    Columbia Choice Award – City of Columbia Forestry and Beautification Department

o        Celia Saxon Development

 

·    Human Service Award – Carolinas Council of Housing, Redevelopment and Codes Officials (CCHRCO)

o        Harmony Program - an in-kind partnership with the Columbia Police Department

 

·    Special Recognition from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

o        Efforts to implement energy conservation techniques in all rental and homeownership developments

CHA manages nearly 1,900 conventional public housing units and administers more than 3,100 rental assistance contracts throughout Richland County.  CHA is the third oldest housing authority in the nation and has continuously been recognized by HUD for its successful housing and education programs.
