The 9,000-square-foot Celia Saxon Health Center, located at 2133 Walker Solomon Way, is a partnership between Columbia Housing Authority and Palmetto Health.  Preventative care and wellness education are primary goals of the health center.  More than 3,500 patients have received care from the center since it opened in 1996; this location opened in 2002.

Services provided:

• Complete physical exams, including pap smears and pregnancy testing
• Sports physicals
• Sick visits for adults and children
• Treatment for most medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure and sexually transmitted diseases 

To receive services, a person needs to meet three criteria:

•    No insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance
•    Income below the federal poverty level
•    No regular physician

***On October 3, 2006, the center officially reopened after six months of renovations.  Improvements to the facility include major systems replacement (electrical, plumbing and HVAC), new roof, windows, parking and exterior finish, as well as improved patient flow and confidentiality.

Features of the remodeled facility include:

• Seven exam rooms with separate nursing stations
• Secured area for storage of free medications
• Separate waiting rooms including a children’s area
• Health record room
• Chaplain office and counseling area
• Computers and phones for each staff member
• Large multi-purpose classroom, clinical simulation lab and kitchen to be used for health education and career training
• Conference room that is available to community at no charge
