Apply for housing Pre-applications for all CHA housing programs (except Section 8 voucher assistance) are available at the following locations: 1) CHA Main Office: 1917 Harden Street, Columbia, SC. Pre-application cards are accepted the first business day of each week from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Elderly and disabled families may apply for the high-rise communities any day (Monday-Friday) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. 2) Cayce City Hall: 1800 12th Street, Cayce, SC. Pre-applications are available any business day during normal operating hours. 3) Lower Richland Community Center: 177 Henry Street, Eastover, SC. Pre-applications are available any business day during normal operating hours. 4) Online at www.chasc.org. CHA now accepts applications online. Visit the Authority’s web site and click the “How to Apply” link. Then click the “Conventional Housing” link.
Receive your eligibility letter After you have applied for housing, CHA will review your application to determine whether or not you are eligible for our housing programs. Once the review is complete, you will receive a letter in the mail, stating whether or not you are eligible for housing based on the information you submitted.
Interview As we reach your name on the waiting list, we schedule applicant interviews. The purpose of the interview is to collect all the required documentation.
Meet with the screening committee Once all the information from the interview has been reviewed and it has been determined that you meet all the requirements, you will be scheduled to meet with the screening committee that is responsible for approving or denying housing applicants.
Ready and waiting If approved by the screening committee and all required documentation has been received, your application will be prepared and placed in the "Ready/Waiting" file. You will remain in the "Ready/Waiting" file until a unit that fits your family's need becomes available.
Move into your unit When a suitable unit becomes available, a manager will contact you to schedule an appointment to complete the lease and receive the keys to your unit.
| NOTE: | This process typically takes 12 months or more for the high rise communities and 18-24 months for all other properties. You may periodically check the status of your application on FRIDAYS ONLY by calling (803) 254-3886 ext. 302. |
