Rev. Edward Francis, Sr. was a distinguished member of the Board of Commissioners for the CHA and Columbia Housing Authority Developments, Inc. (CHAD) from 2000 until his passing on Dec. 25, 2005. As a member of many civic groups and boards, Rev. Francis was committed to the betterment of his community and worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for families in the C.A. Johnson area. In particular, he championed the creation of the new Carver-Lyon Elementary School to replace sorely outdated facilities and served as Richland District One’s Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman.

Acy Suber, Jr. began his teaching and coaching career in Charleston County when he was assigned to Morningside Elementary as an assistant principal and teacher. Suber was the first minority to hold this position at Morningside and one of only a few minorities in administration in Charleston County at the time. As an ordained Deacon, he now presents for the National Baptist Progressive Association, serves as Chairman of the Deacons Ministry, and teaches the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Brookland Baptist Church.
